Permanently redirect url with htaccess

With below line of code you can easily set up a permanent redirect (301). Adding such a redirect should be done to inform search engines the page has moved.

Not doing so might have a negative impact on your Google Ranking as earlier indexed pages will no longer be found on your website.

By adding this permanent redirect you inform Google and other search engines about the new location of the page. Basically you inform Google the website is still managed and the page not being found isn't an unexpected behavior!

Without this, Google might conclude your website is down, partially broken or abandoned. We don't want Google to think that, do we :)
